So, yesterday was my birthday and I celebrated with a nice quiet day off pretty much. I got so many happy birthday wishes on Facebook it took a bit of time to go through them, but that was cool.
I felt happy I could still do it, actually. Anyhow …
While all that was going on, I found out my good friend Rick Helms had WON the International Thriller Writers Award for Best Short Story!!!!
OMFG!!!! Way to go, Rick!
Now, there’s a guy who’s toiled long and hard in this business and deserves to be recognized. Make no mistake about it!
And I see his local paper The Charlotte Observer has run an article about him! Awesome!
Nice to know that some newspapers still give a damn about local authors. lol
Congrats, man!
Anyhow, that was just one awesome bit of news that helped make my day.
My birthday really got off to an awesome start when my husband gave me my presents. He couldn’t wait until that night. He presented them to me at breakfast. I was so excited when I saw that one of them was this.
Now, is that not the most awesome thing ever?
It’s a cookie jar. When you open and close it, it makes this sound. Well, you know, more or less.
You can also press the light on top and achieve the same effect. Fun!!!
I also got two DVDs. The Cheap Detective and Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid.
So, it was movie night at our house last night!
Yes, a double feature of noir, crime AND laughs! Just what I needed.
And what birthday would be complete without a round of the traditional song? My thanks to Janet Rudolph for posting this on my Facebook page.
Before I called it a night, I checked in on one of my favorite blogs, Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar. Where the blogger, Paul Downie, wrote that he woke up with a most interesting tune floating about in his head. If you scroll down, you’ll see he posted it for my birthday.
To say I’m honored to have someone post a song for me for my birthday really doesn’t say enough.
And I absolutely love everything about this video. To the point where I keep hitting “replay,” simply because I don’t want it to end. Ever.

Thanks for your part in making it a great birthday, Janet! And, yeah, is that cookie jar da bomb or what?

Thanks for the kind words, Debbi, and I covet that cookie jar. My summer woodworking project this year is a Stickley Morris chair, but I’m looking at building a full-sized TARDIS replica next year. Already have the plans. In the mean time, I may need to find that cookie jar and put it on my Christmas list for this year!
Glad you had a great birthday, and that I was able to help make it happy in some small way!

Hey, Rick! If you manage to build a full-sized TARDIS that works, please pop on over and give us a ride.
Now *that* would be awesome.
Congrats again on your award. Long overdue and most well deserved.
