When I first heard about this opportunity to provide free ebooks to our military service personnel, my immediate response was “Sign me up!” And so I did. I’m now providing free downloads through Smashwords of my novel, IDENTITY CRISIS (which is also available in print, of course), to interested military personnel.
What I hadn’t quite expected (but, clearly, should have) was the overwhelming numbers of interested people. I just got the first wave of names and email addresses to which to send the link to my book and free coupon code. And–whoa!–no less than 53! And that’s just the first wave. Well, suddenly, I had my work cut out for me . . .
So–here’s how I’m doing it. I’m creating mailing lists and bcc-ing everyone on a copy I mail to myself. Hopefully, I can keep up as more names start pouring in.
Anyway, this giveaway is a big “Thank you!” to all of those who choose to serve. Hope you enjoy the book.

Hi, how exactly does Operation BookDrop work? Through links? I’m not very technically literate, you might have to walk me through it, but I’m definitely interested!

Hi,
The one thing I forgot to mention was who to contact about this.
If you’re interested in participating, you should contact Edward Patterson, the project coordinator. His email is edwpat@att.net.
Here’s a link to some more info from Smashwords about it: http://blog.smashwords.com/2009/09/smashwords-supports-operation-ebook.html
It’s a simple process, but I believe they have someone handling support for those who need it.

Debbi – Hi! I, too, am an OEBD author and have had several coupon “sales” to soldiers around the globe. It is such a great program that comes from a great place in the heart. There is a Kindle thread about this topic: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,13352.0.html
…and I set up a FaceBook page where the authors, OEBD supporters and coalition troop can meet each other, discuss new developments, etc. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Operation-EBook-Drop/172002003420
All my best!
